Our intention towards growth is unequivocal: to develop the business further, yet in a way that is mindful of all those we affect.
When we address the matter of sustainability at Howdens, the word ‘our’ is prevalent. It’s ‘our’ duty to ensure the longevity of our people, supply chain, products, environment and communities to provide long term value. We take seriously the company’s responsibility to positively influence the world. This ambition is achieved by ensuring that it is a fundamental part of our business model.
Our sustainable behaviour helps us to address some of our risks. We adhere strictly to health and safety codes to protect staff, whilst offering them developmental training for a fulfilling career. We have developed long term sustainable supplier relationships, use FSC® and PEFC™ certified materials for products wherever possible, manufacture all of our cabinets at dedicated UK factories to reduce shipping, and contribute charitably to local communities.
Fundamentally, we believe there should be no compromise on health and safety. We prioritise employee well-being and go to every length to provide people with the safest-possible working conditions. Read more about the stringent code we have established to deliver this.
We strive to source ethical FSC® and PEFC™ certified materials in a tenable fashion, which allow us to deliver safe and durable products our end users can enjoy for many years. Learn about the processes behind this aim, including our chain of custody, safety testing and certifications.
Reducing emissions, waste and the amount we send to landfill are key focuses at our two manufacturing sites in East Yorkshire and Cheshire. See the achievements we have made so far, including the re-purpose of sawdust, the reuse of pallets and the reductions made in emissions.
We are passionate about supporting local community projects and nationwide working together with Leonard Cheshire.
