Howdens serves the RMI market - renovation, maintenance and improvement - as carried out by local builders. These builders, who run their own small businesses, are either installing kitchens for owner-occupiers, or they're doing the same in tenanted property, whether for public or private landlords. The total UK market for kitchens splits roughly 70%, private domestic, 30% tenanted.

Kitchens are becoming much more sophisticated. Over 70% of our customers say their customers, the end-users of kitchens, are becoming more design-conscious, and want more sophisticated features, which underpins the ongoing shift away from DIY and towards installation by skilled professionals.

Safety regulations governing the use of materials, electrical and gas installation, child safety and a host of other requirements mean that fitting a kitchen in your home is no longer a straightforward job. Leisure time is perceived as increasingly scarce. The DFY or "done for you" market - our market - continues to grow.
